demotivational posters - NICE LEGS

According to the Lembah Pantai MP, the comic book was sent to young voters in her constituency.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar lodged a police report today over a comic book featuring obscene cartoons of her father, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, in various sexual actions.

NONEAccording to her, the 16-page comic book titled 'Kisah Juara Raja Lawak' (The Tale of the King of Clowns), which degrades Anwar, was sent to new voters in her parliamentary constituency of Lembah Pantai.

In her report, Nurul Izzah said the distribution of the comic books was done maliciously to bring down the reputation and credibility of both her father and herself.

She lodged the police report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 2.40pm.

Nurul Izzah was accompanied by four people, including divisional PKR Youth chief Abdullah Izhar Mohamad Yusof and a lawyer.

In her report, Nurul Izzah said the distribution of the comic book was a crime, committed under the sections 292 and 499 of the Penal Code.

"The distribution of pornographic pamphlets is an offence under section 292(a) of the Penal Code, under which those found guilty will be punished with three years' imprisonment or a fine, or both,” she said.

Under section 499, which is also punishable under section 500 of the Penal Code, those found guilty of defamation can be jailed for up to two years or fined or both, she added.

'Carry out quick and thorough investigations'

Nurul Izzah also said in her police report that she suspects there could be more of such comic books distributed to the new voters in Lembah Pantai thorough the post.

She urged the police to carry out quick and thorough investigations as she wanted the responsible parties practising 'political obscenity' to be brought to justice soon.

Asked how she obtained a copy of the comic book, she said she received it yesterday, from a new voter in her constituency.

NONEIn a statement issued earlier, Nurul Izzah called on all political leaders, regardless of the parties they belonged to, to embrace a new politic rejecting political persecution or political obscenities.

She reiterated that such political tactics were destroying the integrity of the human race.

"The rakyat wants and needs leaders with moral integrity… let us not disappoint the rakyat,” she said.

However, Nurul Izzah refused to show the contents of the comic book to journalists, saying she did not want to be accused of "promoting obscene pictures”.

Also in her police report, Nurul Izzah urged the police to investigate the four police reports made by her father on alleged abuse of power by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, which were referred to in an open letter by the police officer investigating Anwar's “black eye incident”, Mat Zain Ibrahim, to Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar yesterday.

Anwar's police reports were filed between July 9 and Aug 20, 1999.

Meanwhile, political cartoonist Zulkiflee SM Anwarul Haque, who is better known as Zunar, expressed disappointment in a statement today that of late there were cartoonists willing to draw cartoons that would invite elements of defamation.

cartoon-o-phobia zunar press conference in malaysiakini 2“Cartoons like this seem to appear a lot during by-elections and when a political issue creeps up,” said Zunar.

Cartoonists who produce such work do not have moral responsibility, for they do not seem to have the guts to put their names to the work or even use a pseudonym on their 'art', Zunar said.

He also said he had received information that such cartoonists were paid to produce such despicable works.

“Personally, to me, these cartoonists are no better than courtesans... they are paid huge sums of money to follow instructions and produce the cartoons,” Zunar added.

He advised cartoonists to understand an issue from various perspectives and to take their own stand instead of blindly following the orders of others.

“The emergence of these 'cartoonist-courtesans' will only cause the culture and dignity of the cartoonist's world to drop,” he said, adding that, for as long a cartoonist's work was available to the general public, he or she must take full responsibility for its contents.
