The world Should Emulate Malaysia On Mamakism & Corruption ?

Malaysia, preaching to the world — Ahmed Boestamam

Prime Minister Najib Razak is a fine one to talk about Muslim nations copying Malaysia’s administration system.

And the cheek to compare it with modern Turkey.

Yes! We do have a system that delivers the goods and services to the people. The question is, which people?

All of his 1 Malaysia? Or just the select few, the elite, the Umnoputras?

“A good system allows the people to participate in the system, it empowers the people to decide their own destiny.

“In case of Malaysia, it is very much like Turkey. Without having to blow our own trumpet, we have a modern system, much like Turkey.

“Therefore, we can offer the Malaysian model because it has worked. From a relatively poor nation whose economy was based on agriculture, we have moved to industrialising the economy.

“Now, we have planned initiatives for the next phase. We have a very detailed roadmap of transformation. The next wave of transformation is to become a high-income nation,” Najib said in Istanbul in a forum co-organised by Malaysia’s ISIS.

Najib is talking about a time when the civil service and other institutions like the judiciary and police were the pride and joy of Malaysia. They are nothing now, and probably similar to those in Egypt and Libya.

The only difference is we have a large middle-class — to poor to migrate and too rich to protest for fear of jeopardising their future.

Let’s not preach to the world when even the transformation plans have been compromised to pander to race extremists.

Najib should know better than to preach to the world because they won’t vote him in; that’s our job.

Do well here and follow what you preach, please!

Let’s also not follow Najib’s deputy, Muhyiddin Yassin’s declaration that ethnic groups in Malaysia have their own roles to play and will never be left out from mainstream development.

“The government’s policy (in matters concerning the rights of an ethnic group) has been in practice for so long and has become Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s principle not to sideline any group so that the vision to become a fully developed nation can be achieved.

“That is why transformation of the government and the economy is seriously implemented with focus given on six national key result areas (NKRAa),” he said when opening the Malaysian Siamese Association’s annual convention here, last night.

Right. Is that why religious pluralism is bad and other houses of worship are largely non-existent in the national landscape?

It’s easy to say nice things to the ethnic communities ahead of the general election but the proof is in treating all of us equally.

That isn’t happening now. We are left wanting the Malaysia that Tunku Abdul Rahman dreamed of. The reality now is a nightmare.
