Police reject HRP's appeal for permit to hold rally

The police today rejected an appeal by the Human Rights Party for a permit to organise a gathering and a parade at the KLCC this Sunday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Pahlawan Zulkifli Abdullah said he received a letter of appeal from lawyers representing the party.

I have considered the appeal and rejected it and thereby maintained the decision made by the Dang Wangi police chief not to issue a permit for the gathering and parade, he said in a statement.

He advised members of the public not be to take part in any such gathering and parade, saying that legal action could be taken against anyone involved.

Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur police informed the HRP secretary-general that the partys request (made to the Dang Wangi police chief) to hold a gathering had been turned down.

However, the police would reconsider if the party were to suggest a different venue and there was no likelihood of a situation being created that would jeopardise public order.
