Racist: Racism is evil ... Paradox At Its Best ?
Umno to monitor opposition rallies for racial slurs
Ahmad said this will help identify if there are racially-sensitive issues touched at these assemblies.
“We will monitor opposition ceramahs in non-Malay languages. I am not sure if the ceramah in Mandarin or Tamil have raised racial issues,” Ahmad told a press conference after speaking at a Puteri Umno gathering here.
“Do not just say, (our) ceramah in the Malay language raise sensitive issues, just because everyone can understand,” he responded when asked about Umno’s response to the action of independent songwriter Wee Meng Chee, who produced a music video with allegedly seditious content.
“Sometimes the opposition would organise dinners, with speeches in Mandarin or Tamil, we want to know if racial issues are raised,” said the deputy minister in the prime minister’s department.
Wee, better known as Namewee, posted a video which contained trademark utterances of vulgarities and obscenities in response to an incident involving a Johor principal and claims of racial taunts.
The principal, Siti Inshah Mansor, has since been questioned by the police, late last month, with no conclusive outcome.
Earlier when addressing some 200 Puteri Umno members Ahmad drew comparison between Namewee’s case and Siti Inshah — who allegedly said at school assembly that the Chinese may return to China and Indians looked like dogs with the prayer strings.
He pointed out that the opposition leaders have only called for action to be taken against the principle but has been silent on Namewee.
Maslan stressed that the government’s action was never racially motivated.
“I said just now a tree can be used to make 10,000 matchsticks, but with just one matchstick you can start a racial flame which can destroy 10,000 trees,” said Ahmad.
