Dr Tony Tan: Need for President for all Singaporeans

Presidential candidate Dr Tony Tan believes that with the right leadership, there is no need for Singaporeans to fear the future.

Addressing a lunch-time rally in the Central Business District on Wednesday, he stressed that the President has to be a President for all Singaporeans, working with all political parties and civil society for Singapores future.

He also focused his message on the role he can play as President, his experience in both public and private sectors, and how he can influence the Cabinet, within the powers of the Presidency. On the economic front, Dr Tan said his experience in economic and financial management will allow him to share his views and insights with the Prime Minister and Cabinet ministers so that they can make better economic decisions.

He stressed that the economic problems in some countries today, are not just due to wrong economic decisions but of political leadership. Dr Tan said: I do not know if I will win, but I must I know that I must try. I will serve you and Singapore once again. Our President has access to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet ministers. Our President has access to all Cabinet ministers. So a wise, experienced and steady President will be able to make a contribution to help Singapore get through the next financial and economic crisis.

And Im! offerin g my background, experience and steady temperament to you, fellow Singaporeans and to Singapore once again. Im doing this because I want to help us get through the next crisis, which we will do and emerge in good shape as we have done in the past.

He said he would like to help Singaporeans get through the next crisis and emerge in as good shape as it has in the past. He also stressed that the President has to be a President for all Singaporeans, working with all political parties and civil society for Singapores future.

Our President is not a Member of Parliament (MP). The President is not super MP as some candidates appear to believe. Our President represents our country at home and abroad. Our President wields important powers to protect our reserves your rainy day savings, said Dr Tan.

Seven other speakers among them, members of the business community, a retired doctor and a grassroots leader who worked with Dr Tan when he was in politics, as well as TV personality Sharon Au joined Dr Tan in his Presidential Election rally at Boat Quay.
