Yes, No, so how YES?

YES 4G solution launched last week seemed to point to a healthy competition to lower charge among the telco companies.

Currently the cost is still not low enough and each operator promises the lowest but in reality they bundle up so many useless things you end up paying more!

When YES was launched, inside sources said their server was attacked and was reported in the media as being attacked by hackers!

So who would be the culprits to jam up their servers denying genuine subscribers from logging into their site? The finger points to the rivals but noone wants to accuse anyone. Which is odd becoz one can trace the source and if they really want to find out they can. And how embarassing it would be if the culprit is traced to rival operators! Let's hope such dirty tactics wasn't carried out by any of the rivals!

So, YES=terday or real 4G?

There is stil confusion what YES is supposed to offer, mobile or TV broadcasting. One day YTL says they have been given the ok and the next day MCMC said otherwise (See story below).

Why is there confusion or has YTL got their assumptions wrong and may face with a multi billion fiasco loss if they are not allowed to offer 4G mobile services. And the ultimate losers are the consumers who will be deprived of a cheaper and yet more powerful network.

Which brings to the questions of why did the confusion arose in the first place? Is there any cartel by existing operators to prevent YTL from having a lead in 4G and capturing their market?

4G needs newer infrastructure and it is logical for YTL to build new infrastructure and cheaper too since they don't have the old 3Gs technology to upgrade! One suspects the 3G telcos are crybabies who are not willing to convert even though they are earning billions from their subscribers while YTL has just started and am not assured of steady income!

If there is! so much confusion in offering 4G which is the way to go, how are we going to attract foreing investors and boast we are progressive in areas of telecommunications? Who wants to come to invest if they are forced to set up partnerships with existing telcos?

Has YTL got the wrong information or are they trying to force the hand of the government to grant them the 700Mhz band becoz they have invested so much and the public wants it?

It must be rather embarassing for the DPM and the government ministers who officiated the launch and made to told they are launching an ole WiMax technology. Worse YTL hasn't even got the green light or licence to offer 4G mobile services?

Who is creating the confusion and why? And at the other end, the consurmers are the ultimate users, those who signed up and those awaiting for 4G...

Actually it isn't 4G in reality and wonder why they are allowed to say it's 4G. And let's me honest you can't get the full 700kpbs constantly. Hey even streamyx and unifi sucks! So why single out only YES for their claims? Ultimately it is the consumer who is going to decide and telcos that try to cheat will be the ultimate users.

But seriously do we need that much speed on our mobile especially unless we don't plan to work and stay connected to our FB or twitter but even these two don't need that much speed. Besides if we want to read news for updates, do we really need all those graphics and java applets to be on. I prefer reading short or plain text. It's the info I'm seeking as I'm not watching the news unless i want to listen to the news!

Meanwhile is there any moral hacker who will turn white hacker and confess to who is behind the attack on YTL site please?

.....................

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 Bernama The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today clarified that no assignment had been issued to YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL) for them to offer pay TV broadcasting using the 700Mhz band as reported.
MCMC, in ! a statem ent here, said the operating licence issued to YTL on Aug 30 was for a content applications service provider individual licence (CASP licence) to provide subscription-based Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services using their 2.3GHz WiMax network.
MCMC would like to reiterate that no spectrum assignment has been issued to YTL in the 700MHz spectrum band for pay TV broadcasting, hence the reports and commentaries on a spectrum issuance are inaccurate, it said.
Media reports over the past month said it is believed that the 700Mhz spectrum band is to be given to tycoon Tan Sri Francis Yeohs YTL to operate its hybrid television service slated for end 2011.
It can also be used to widen its broadband service.
The MCMC also clarified that it was assessing a detailed business plan by YTL for the roll out of digital pay TV and not 4G mobile services as reported.
Further, it said, under Malaysias National Spectrum Plan, 700MHz spectrum band was allocated for broadcasting service and not for Long-Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G mobile services as speculated in the various media articles and reports.
The ownership of all spectrum bands remains at all times with the Government of Malaysia, the statement said.

...YTL launched its US$800 million network with promises to provide 65 percent coverage in Malaysia and surfing speeds between three and five times faster than services offered by current 3G competitors. YES pricing plans are based on a pay-as-you-use model and starts at 0.09 ringgit (US$0.03) per voice minute, or per SMS sent or per 3Mbps of data transmitted.

The company in March 2007 was awarded one of four licences to own and operate a WiMax network but was the last to roll out its network. It was fined last year for not meeting its required coverage target on time. YTL said it missed the deadline because it wanted to ensure it could provide 65 percent coverage before launching its service. various media
