Kelantan's unfavourable conditions to blame for lack of investment, says Mustapa

KOTA BARU, Oct 30 — The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) says unfavourable conditions in Kelantan have hampered its efforts at attracting foreign investment to the state, Bernama Online reported this evening.

Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, told the news portal that several efforts to promote Kelantan as a viable investment option had seen less than encouraging results.

Among the obstacles cited by the minister were water supply problems, poor infrastructure and a lack of ports and human resources.

His comments were in response to the Auditor General's recent report on the absence of investments in the east coast state, which he said made a number of valid observations that should be taken into consideration by all parties who wish to see a change to the current situation.

Mustapa added he was optimistic that the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) plan would improve the situation in due course.
