Namewee "Mamak is a Moron" ?
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Rapper-turned-filmmaker Wee Meng Chee has flayed Utusan Malaysia in his latest expletive-laden video for suggesting his debut movie was not worth watching due to his allegedly racist past.
In a nearly three-minute-long tirade against the Umno-owned daily, which was uploaded to YouTube yesterday, Wee, better known as Namewee, slammed the paper for passing judgement on “Nasi Lemak 2.0” without having seen it first.

“The police used to wear shorts. People used to get around on bicycles. But now what do they ride on? You ride on AirAsia!” he said in typically blunt fashion in the video.
Wee questioned the professionalism of the article’s writer, Fauziah Arof, as well as whether she “had any brains”, and slammed the Malay-language paper for insulting all Malaysians with their “rubbish” and “shiok sendiri” (self-indulgent) content.
He reiterated that Fauziah should have watched the film first before deciding if it was good or bad, and offered to give her free tickets so she could see for herself what it was all about.
“If you haven’t seen it, what the **** are you writing about?” he said.
The mass communications graduate stressed that the duty of newspapers was to report and not judge or create negativity needlessly, and suggested Utusan Malaysia editors and staff “go back to school” if they did not understand this.
Wee also defended his previous songs as being patriotic because they urged Malaysians not to be racist, and pointed out that “Nasi Lemak 2.0” featured Malay, Chinese and Indian actors collaborating together.
He added that de facto law minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz had once defended the rapper by saying his songs were not racist in nature, and that Wee had been “grossly misunderstood” by his detractors.
In an opinion piece carried by Utusan Malaysia last Wednesday, Fauziah said she refused to watch “Nasi Lemak 2.0” despite the star-studded cast as Wee had previously insulted Malaysians, in particular Malays and Muslims.
She pointed out that he had insulted tudung-wearing women, the morning prayer call, the Education Ministry and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), adding that he had told Malays to “go back to the jungle and be a Sakai” in his “Kawanku” song.
“It’s not about the film ‘Nasi Lemak 2.0’. It’s about its director and scriptwriter, who has hurt the feelings of Malaysians on many occasions before,” Fauziah had said.
A Perak-based lobby group, Pertubuhan Gagasan Rakyat Didahulukan, had earlier organised a protest demanding that authorities pull the film certificate for “Nasi Lemak 2.0” for the same reason.
Wee’s debut film, shot over 23 days on a RM1 million budget, opened earlier this month to largely positive reviews and has raked in RM4 million at the box office so far.
