Golf Galore
It has been a tiring week of golf, golf, golf. First the Sime Darby LPGA the Ladies PGA, this weekend the multi million, USD6million prize money, the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia.
The CIMB PGA winner takes back a cool USD1 million which is over three times what the Maybank Malaysia Open with only a USD2 million offering with super sensation 18 year old Korean teen, Noh Seung-yul winning the USD333,000 first prize.
It's odd that we are willing to pay overboard amount to host a foreign tournament than support the national Open! Is there some kind of golf ego competition between the No2 and No1 bank in seeing who spends the most money on a game that normally attracts those who can afford it, the middle and upper class?
Should not we be pulling resources and raise the pride and prestige of our own Open than create new ones just for some CEO's shiok sendiri ego trip?
Though not being a golfer, it may be unfair to judge avid crazy golfer frens of mind who swear its the most relaxing and healthy exercise! Hmmm, would it not be better to spend your RM20k membership fee and God knows how much monthly fees, thousand grand golf sets and equally thousand grand attire to say on healthy food instead? These corporate fellos spend 25 hours working each day and then hope to wean off the stress or the excess cholesterol on an afternoon of golf!
Of course, golfers will also swear the greatest business deals are sealed over a game of balls and holes! One can't dispute that really as it does occur on the greens as well as off the greens at some more enticing lush pastures, no? As a certain Tiger who will swear that to score you don't need a nine iron as a 'wood' will do!
There was a strong foreign crowd at the Sime Darby LPGA at KLGCC, notably the Koreans and Japanese, ladies that is. Wonder if the small local women fans is an indication of the popularity of the sports among women.
And what of glamour gurl Michelle Wie? Ok she didn't make it anywhere top ten! But then w! ho bothe rs as she was the star and it was rather odd to see a larger crowd following her than the other better player! Up close encounter with her is she is tall, pleasant and has a certain charm. The 'Paris Hilton' of golf is certainly an unglam comparison of our Wie since she isn't anywhere close to our P gurl in terms of behaviour! Wie's fame got to do with more media hype than her handling of the iron and playing good ball, the game that is!
Nevertheless, glad this golf galore is ending as it is really a stressful affair. Not so much going to watch the game but if you have to man hospitality marquees and try and pamper some of those fuzzy daddies and corporate clients you'd wished you know how to play golf and shaft the iron at you know where.
If you think golfers are those rich fellos and somebody and they will show their behaviour and golf etiquette in such high profile game, guess again. While the ladies in the course were behaving and wooing the crowd, some men golfers, BolehLand corporate amateurs were demanding first class treatment at hospitality marquees.
According to frens who have the misfortune to spend four days being servants even though they are bosses in their offices, to those 'biadap' or 'unmannered' uncivilised' as they call them corporate fellos as well as hanger-ons who demanded first class star treatment at the marquees!
Some behaves the lowest of creatins demanding for goodies and behaving like spoil brats who whine, threaten and are just plain rude when you ask them, "could i check your pass please" - earned you a stare that if these fussy VIPs had eyes that could killed, those manning the marquees would have been singed to cinders.
While the lady golfers showed their charm, professionalism and grace on the greens, the so called somebodies at hospitality marquees were some of the worst breed of VIPs you ever encounter. But then this is BolehLand, where one needs to suck up to these pampered oldies, at least the obnoxious ones.
Congratulation to! yet ano ther South Korean for winning the LPGA, Kang Jimin and also to local amateur the lovely Michlle Wie look alike, Kelly Tan.
Kelly Does Us Proud!
Michelle Wie shot a 74 to tie for 34th at 3 over- Hmm so much for her professional skills. In Wie's case, a pretty face and personality wins over her skills at holding an iron and her ball game, right?YAHMEH!!!
