17 Cool and Committed Malaysians - The Merdeka Series
Political discourse is taking up too much public space and time. As the 13th general election approaches, public time and media space are being ravished by political debates, bickering and mudslinging. I don't know whether this is good or bad – but one thing is sure. Other important issues, problems, achievements and people are being ignored or not appreciated adequately.
In conjunction with our Hari Merdeka and Hari Malaysia, Planet of the Monyets will feature 17 Malaysians (or group of Malaysians) who have served or are serving our country or made it proud because of their accomplishments. They may not be big names. But they are men and women who serve Malaysia well – through their commitment to work, charity, sports and arts. They make Malaysia proud. They are role models for the rest of us. [why 17? because there are 17 days from 31 August to 16 September].
Malaysia needs heroes, hope and good news. This is the monyets' way of spreading cheer, giving hope and creating a more positive Malaysia.

2. Although there are a number of civil servants who are doing a terrific job and whom I really admire – I am not able to feature them due to possible conflicts of interest.
