How to screw yourself : The Malaysian way
One of the basic requirements for running a successful organization is minimizing or eliminating internal conflicts. Conflicts amongst colleagues, in-fighting- politicking and inter-departmental quarrels and doing things detrimental to the organization/company's vision are chief reasons why many organizations simply cannot excel. If you went out and examined all successful companies, you will find that these organizations have spent a lot of resources on "internal harmony". These companies focus on their customers and strategize against their competitors – and they can do this because they don't have to waste time worrying about quarrelling with their own colleagues or fighting over resources or currying favours from their bosses. Very low internal conflicts are the hallmark of successful companies.
The same rule applies to countries. If the people and their leaders of a country spend a lot of their time quarreling amongst themselves, bringing each other down, currying favours from one segment of the society at the expenses of other segments, the country is not going to progress very much. If the people of a country are simply envious of their fellow citizens, if they simply cannot agree how the country should move forward, if they simply cannot set aside their personal differences in order to push their nation forward, that country simply cannot make speedy progress.
Just like private companies, nations must recognize that minimizing internal conflicts (be it racial, religious, regional, class, political, etc) is FUNDAMENTAL to ensure the rapid national development. Visionary leaders spend a lot of their time in ensuring that internal conflicts are minimized or avoided. Visionary leaders recognize that as long as your people are squabbling amongst themselves, the nation cannot really move forward effectively. Visionary leaders engage their people to make sure everyone is on the same page. Visionary leaders AVOID PETTY stuff and guide their followers to avoid petty things.
Sometimes when you wonder why some other countries can develop for fast and so efficiently compared to Malaysia, why other countries have a much higher income than we Malaysians, – think about the amount of time and resources we, Malaysians, waste on internal squabbling. WE WASTE TONNES, TONNES AND TONNES OF ENERGY, RESOURCES AND TIME ON INTERNAL SQUABBLES and PETTY THINGS
