Kit Siang: Thanks to Dr M, elections may be later

A delay in polls is expected after former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's gloomy warnings for BN had dented Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's election momentum, says DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

Lim noted that Najib had been buoyant with a high approval rating and appeared confident he has regained public support since 2008 from his recent blitz across the country, with polls looking set for June.

"But something very strange has happened in the past few days as if all the momentum for a June elections has suddenly faltered," he said in a press statement today.

He attributed this to Mahathir's warning yesterday that there would be "no easy wins ahead" for BN to regain a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

"A day earlier, Mahathir had dropped another bombshell for Umno to pulverise its sense of confidence when he admitted that the party does not have quality and talented leaders to form a capable government," he said.

With the evaporation of Umno's earlier confidence of a sure win in the 13th general election, including wresting back Selangor and retaining Perak, Najib is expected to hold off the speculated June polls, said Lim.
