Johor still MCA stronghold - 'liar' Liow
MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the early departure of a fifth of the estimated 15,000 guests at an MCA mega dinner, as reported in a Chinese daily, was not a sign that the party was losing support in Johor.
According to a China Press report on Sunday, many began to leave when MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek gave his speech on Saturday.
"We organise a lot of these mega dinners and we receive a lot of support," said Liow, who maintained that Johor was still the stronghold of his party.
"I, myself, was in Kampar (Perak) and there were more than 600 tables and more than 6,000 people there," he said.
He said the people had braved the rain to attend the dinner.
Liow said if people left such an event it may have been to attend to some personal matter.
"It doesn't mean that they showed no support to MCA. I don't think that is an indication," he said.
"Most importantly, we are passing a strong message to the public that we want stability over chaos. We want this country to continue to progress."
He said stability was important for Malaysia to progress into a developed nation by 2020.
"We can see that in every part of the world, if the country is in chaos, it cannot develop," he said.
