Pig heads found at mosque entrance in Johor

Five pig heads were discovered at the entrance of a mosque in Johor this morning.

The heads, dumped in a single bag in front of Al Falah mosque in Taman Desa Jaya, Johor Baru, were discovered at 6.30am.

Three more bags believed to contain bones were also found nearby, but police later confirmed they contained stones.

Johor police chief Mokhtar Mohd Shariff (right in photo) said a special team headed by his deputy, Ismail Yatim, has been set up to investigate the matter.

Mokthar warned parties against speculating over the incident.

This follows another incident in which two bags suspected to contain bones were discovered at 5.30pm yesterday at the same mosque.

The last time pig heads were dumpedat mosques was last year during the controversy surrounding the usage of the word 'Allah' in which both mosques and churches were vandalised.

The most serious incident was when the Metro Tabernacle Church in Kuala Lumpur was burnt, leaving its entire ground floor gutted.

'Mosque had loudspeaker complaints'

Johor CID chief Amir Awal said the bones discovered yesterday may not necessarily be pig bones, and they have been sent for forensic testing to determine their origin.

Amir adds that the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code for "wounding the religious feelings" of others.

He said that this may have been perpetrated by certain quarters who wanted to inflame religious sentiments.

Al Falah Mosque chairperson Kassim Darim said he had received a complaint letter three years ago alleging that the mosque's speakers were too loud.

He was unable to trace the source of the letter. However the volume of the mosque's speakers has been reduced.

Kassim said that if anyone had any issues with the mosque, they should discuss it through proper channels.

A caretaker of the mosque said no such incident has ever occurred in its eight-year history.
