UMNO admits Malays are Immigrants from Cambodia

Expedition To Trace Malay Heritage To Cambodia

SIEM REAP- Kampung Cham, a Malay settlement established in the first century, will be the focus of the Jejak Warisan Jawi 2 (JWJ2) expedition in Cambodia, the second country on the itinerary after Thailand.

”We’re not sure whether or not Malay language is still being used there. We need to check this out,” said expedition advisor Saiful Anwar Yahaya.

He said several cultural and sporting events would take place to forge closer ties between the delegation from Malaysia and the villagers.

Saiful Anwar said they would also visit historical sites such as the Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom temples which may shed light on the history of the Malays in Cambodia.

The expedition, organised by Majma’ Budaya and Warisan Jawi as well as the Putra 1Malaysia Club, is supported by the Information Communication and Culture Ministry. — BERNAMA
