Puteri Gunung Ledang's 8th condition?

Image
When one reads or talks about the Malay unity, the thoughts/reflections or discussions could possibly lead to the story of Hang Tuah and his warrior-brethren. We would be particularly intrigued with the puzzle of the Tuah–Jebat fratricidal conflict. But let us skip the vexing yet perplexing question of why and how Tuah could bring himself to kill his warrior-brethren, his best friend, a man who actually loved and defended him and his honour against a tyrant who wanted to execute Tuah, Ironically Tuah acted on the orders of the very tyrant. Let us instead mull over the seven conditions that the legendary Puteri Gunung Ledang (the Princess of Mount Ophir) set as pre-marital conditions for the tyrannical sultan who lusted after her. Apparently, as the story tells us, Tuah was the emissary for the royal proposal of marriage. The Princess demanded seven impossible con! ditions, far more unachievable than the 12 tasks Heracles was required to accomplish. They consisted of golden and silv

February 28, 2013 Pak Kadiak: Smartphone may cause trouble in GE-13 by Hazlan Zakaria@ http://www.malaysiakini.com A veteran media practitioner believes that the common smartphone, and its more than common capabilities, may cause trouble in the 13th General Election (GE-13), if authorities are not prepared for it. "This coming election may not be as smooth if the people involved in the process do not pay attention to the power of the smartphone," said blogger and veteran editor A Kadir Jasin at a forum on the changing landscape of media in the face of the upcoming general election in Kuala Lumpur today. "In GE-13 things can be complicated and go wrong if you don't preempt. Unless you can ban the smartphone, there may be problems," he argued. Kadir said that this is because all sorts of rumours, chit-chat and false news can be conveniently spread on the devices which can lead to low voter turnouts or crisis situations. Sixty-three-year-old Siti Aminah Mahmud ( right ) was detained under ISA in 1995 for two years for her alleged involvement in the IC project. Show us your proof, Perkasa urges Bala

Malay rights group Perkasa has challenged former private investigator P Balasubramaniam, who has just returned to the country to campaign for Pakatan Rakyat, to furnish evidence to back his allegations that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is involved in the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu. Utusan Malaysia  today reported that the NGO's president Ibrahim Ali said that should Bala fail to do so, it shows that there is a conspiracy by a group of pro-opposition lawyers to defame Najib and the government. Ibrahim ( right ) claimed that Bala and the opposition want to create a negative perception against the government through "rhetorical ceramah". "If you want to have ceramah everywhere without giving evidence, anyone can do that. "As long as Bala can't substantiate his accusation, the people should not trust the ridiculous allegation against Najib," the Pasir Mas MP was quoted as sayin! g. Uthaya: Manifesto overlooked Hindraf's 18-point demand

Image
Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf)  de facto  leader P Uthayakumar has slammed Pakatan Rakyat's manifesto for overlooking its 18-point demand to assist the Indian community. He said that while Pakatan supremo Anwar Ibrahim has  offered to fix   an omission in the manifesto by adding in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang's oil royalty, Hindraf's demands did not receive the same treatment.   Uthayakumar, who is also the Human Rights Party pro-tem secretary-general, questioned whether the manifesto  transcends racial boundaries  as Anwar had claimed on Tuesday. "There are zero provisions in the manifesto to undo these 56 years of ongoing Umno racism-cum-injusti! ces victimising the most vulnerable community in Malaysia, like the Indian poor. "(Although) Pakatan shouted  ubah (change), the manifesto does not include undoing these injustices," Uthayakumar said in a statement today. To illustrate his point, Uthayakumar described the condition of a 61-year-old I

Filipino intruders fire shots to warn off Malaysian forces

Image
The Filipino group, holed-up in Lahad Datu for the third week, confirmed reports of gunfire about 24 hours ago but claimed that they were merely shots to warn off the Malaysian security forces. Azzimudie Kiram, the brother of self-proclaimed Sulu sultan Jamalul Kiram III, told  Malaysiakini  that a sentry spied six Malaysian soldiers approaching Kampung Tanduo some 130km from Lahad Datu town at around 5pm yesterday and fired into the air. "Everybody jumped and went there, so I followed. When I arrived, I asked him (the sentry) what had happened. "They told me that the shots were aimed at the sky to warn them that they have been spotted.
