Religious experts to join Hadi at RTM forum

Image
Religious experts and state muftis will participate in the Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) forum in which PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is to explain the 'Amanat Haji Hadi' (Haji Hadi Message) that has disunited Muslims in Malaysia, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim said today.   He said Hadi could not decide for himself and be overly confident due to his religious education background "because there will always be people who are smarter than us". "RTM is a right of the people and it can be used to explain any issue, but not only from one source (Hadi alone). There must participation of other knowledgeable and experienced people," he told reporters after the 1Malaysia New Year Run at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur. Rais said Hadi must be prepared to present arguments against the opinions of others, but this would be conducted in a conducive atmosphere. Hadi could not assume that the 'Amanat Haji Hadi' that he delive...

The sweeping-under-the-carpet man

Steve Oh Is Deepak Jaikishin a hero? Not in the eyes of those who believe a hero is one who gives his life for others. At best many see him if the comments in internet websites are any indication, as nothing more than a conniving businessman with a singular eye for self-profit. By baiting the public and those who have affected his business bottomline with dribs and drabs of juicy details of his role in the shameful PI Balasubramaniam statutory declarations (SD2) scandal and problematic business dealings, and threatening to reveal more, many see him as just playing a poker game of high stakes. And so near GE13 it is likely he will win. Why the authorities have not acted on the incriminating revelations when they can expedite 15 police officers within 24 hours of the publication of my letter in Malaysiakini, and another seven uniformed officers 24 hours later just to get my email address, baffles me and probably many others. I never figured I would have had such an imp...

Don’t shoot each other, Liow says in aftermath of Soi Lek’s blogger remarks

Image
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 — Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has said that sensitive matters not beneficial to the MCA should not be raised in the critical period before Election 2013 as the political fallout from party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek's reported comments on a pro-Umno blog continues. Dr Chua had reportedly told a group of pro-Umno bloggers that party deputy president Liow should not challenge him for the party presidency while suggesting that his rival Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat would jump ship if there was a hung Parliament after the elections. Last Thursday, Dr Chua had told the bloggers at his office that Liow  (picture) should not contest for the MCA president's post as it will be the end of the health minister's political career if he loses. "His advice to Datuk Liow Tiong Lai, the deputy president of the MCA, is to be patient and not challenge for the presidency yet. He says if Liow challenges and loses, it will be the end of his career. ...

Vets want servicemen in Boustead to stop LTAT deal

Armed forces veterans today called out to their comrades on the Boustead Holdings Berhad board to block the controversial 'buyout' involving businessman Deepak Jaikishan and Selangor Umno Wanita chief Raja Ropiaah Raja Abdullah. "Are the generals on the board simply yes-men, who just nod their heads?" asked retired Royal Malaysian Air Force brigadier general Abdul Hadi Abdul Khatab. He explained that the current armed forces chief, chief secretary of the Defence Ministry, as well as all the deputy chiefs of all armed forces branches are on the Boustead board. Abdul Hadi  (right)  who is PKR security committee head said this at a press conference at party headquarters in Petaling Jaya today. He argued that the deal which saw RM30 million paid to Deepak's Astacanggih Sdn Bhd and a further RM160 million to be paid to Raja Ropiaah's Awan Megah for the land is detrimental to military personnel and veterans who had contributed to the Lembaga Tabung Ang...

End of Year Madness

Image
Last week, Ong Tee Keat a former MCA president recommended the present MCA president go see a psychiatrist. May we get the same services for the people at LTAT? Some people have gone mad at LTAT. Why buy a useless company called Astacanggih? The company has no value. It has no property. It has an outstanding liability of RM98 million with Kuwait Finance House. It's entangled in a legal dispute with a company called Awan Megah Sdn Bhd. All it has is a claim on the rights to 3 parcels of land totaling 200 acres which once belonged to MINDEF/kerajaan Malaysia. Its madness to pay RM30millon of LTAT's money for a messed up company. Quick! get a psychiatrist or the son of a particular psychiatrist. In an earlier article, I asked why buy 80% from Deepak and other minority shareholders? What about the balance of 20%? It must be held by a friendly party. The name of the 20% holder is Putra Nazrain bin Abdul Jalil, presumed to be a close friend to Raja Ropiaah or some proxy for...
