The Malaysian Insider (TMI) -  YouTube video appears to reveal Anwar, Azmin ordered Dataran breach I am not sure whether the above is the same video by Free Malaysia Today as presented by Malaysiakini and which I mentioned in a previous post Was it worth cordoning off Dataran Merdeka?  It discussed a Malaysiakini report that   Papers blame Azmin, Anwar for 'instigating' chaos TMI reported this: In the very first few seconds of the 19-minute video Opposition Leader Anwar who is standing on top of a truck is seen making a rolling gesture with both hands in Azmin ' s direction before the camera pans to the Gombak MP .   Azmin who is standing on top of the barricade with his back towards the square jerks his thumb over his shoulder and nods back in Anwar ' s direction while an Indian male in a yellow T-shirt also makes the same gesture towards the PKR de facto leader .   The Selangor PKR chief then looks over his shoulder towards the man who some on Twitter say is ...

Hisham warned editors not to report on police brutality - Surendran

Image
I refer to the Bersih 3.0 rally and the BN government's high-handed and brutal action against the media. We have uncovered further evidence indicating that the orders to harass, obstruct and arrest journalists covering the Bersih 3.0 rally came from the highest levels of the Home Ministry. On 27.4.12, the Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein Onn had ordered all Chief Editors of major dailies to appear before him. We are informed that at the meeting instructions were given on how to report the news on the Bersih rally on 28.4.12, and that the editors were asked to refrain from reporting on police brutality. It is extremely disturbing that one day after this meeting, journalists trying to record police misconduct were brutalized in an unprecedented manner. The police appear to have been carrying out the wishes of the Home Minister. Until now, no explanation has been given by the PM, Home Minister or IGP on the police att! acks upo n the media. Hishamuddin's answer that seizure ...

PKFZ: What big discovery - Tee Keat ticks off 'Umno-nised' RPK

Image
The "Great Discovery" purportedly exposed by Raja Petra Kamaruddin in Malaysia Today is no secret at all in the entire episode of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) probe. The letter signed by me as the Transport Minister on 10-5-2008 was in fact required by the then Finance Minister alongside the submission of "Laporan Penilaian Kos Projek Pembangunan PKFZ" that was prepared by the Port Klang Authority (PKA) Board under the chairmanship of Dato' Chor Chee Heung (the present Minister of Housing & Local Government). The decision was made on 5-2-2008 before I joined the Cabinet in mid March 2008. I was duty-bound to submit the PKA board's decision and acceptance of the price quotation from Kuala Dimensi (the turnkey contractor) as PriceWater -house Coopers had yet been commissioned then to conduct the audit and position review of the PKFZ debacle. In fact, no contractor should ever be faulted simply du! e to its price quotation but non-compliance of spe...

'Police acted after protesters became aggressive'

Image
The police were "forced" to take action to disperse the Bersih 3.0 rally last Saturday because the "protesters behaved aggressively" Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said today. To prove his point, a compilation of video clippings showing protesters "attacking" police vehicles and breaking through barricades placed at the surrounding to Dataran Merdeka were shown to reporters this afternoon. "If the action was not taken to disperse the crowd, a clash could have taken place and the situation would have become far more dangerous for both parties," Ismail said, reasoning the use of tear gas and water cannons. "Everything that happened is an offence of rioting. Besides that, they also breached the court order and maybe other laws too," he said. The seven-minute video started with showing Himpunan Hijau 3.0 supporters marching from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) to Masjid Jamek, breaking through a police wall on Jalan Ampang. [...

IGP says will investigate alleged police brutality

Image
Ismail said the situation may have been worse had the police not deployed tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators. — File pic KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Tan Sri Ismail Omar refused today to comment directly on various allegations of police brutality, but repeatedly insisted his force would investigate all claims "openly and be fair to all." He told a press conference the police had shown "full restraint for over four hours" until protestors breached the barricade blocking them from Dataran Merdeka, which the court had barred the public from entering across the weekend. "You are creating the idea I'm a guilty person. You're not being fair to me. What is important is we will investigate openly and be fair to all," he said when asked why police had chased demonstrators down several streets after firing tear gas and water cannons at them. He also refused to say how many tear gas canisters were fired at demonstrators but asked reporters to imag...

Bersih front pages – Malay papers

Image
Not surprisingly, Mingguan Malaysia could find nothing clean about Bersih. Berita Minggu and Kosmo took the same approach. Sinar Harian also saw the negative points. More surprising was Metro Ahad who didn't think Bersih was exciting enough. Sorry to tell you this - but your coffin is ready, BN

Image
Whether one can can stomach this truth or not, the Bersih 3.0 has permanently etched the start of BN's demise. This is evident from two counts. First, the way the Ministers who are also UMNO members reacted and made forked statements at the eleventh hour of Bersih 3.0 showdown is, on hindsight, very telling. The unfolding of the events that slowly crept silently to culminate in a police crackdown on the citizens and the members of the press clearly establishes that BN is crumbling. BN was on the defencive and when cornered by the huge showdown by citizens it went ballistic out of desperation. It was, to put it bluntly, an idiotic strartegy by the leaders who continue to proclaim and make-believe that they have half the nation's rakyat with them. And lest we forget, only a bankrupting government - rather a political establishment that is crumbling, will ensure that phone lines go dead and internet media gets hacked at the heights of the showdown by it...
